Our Heavenly Father, Creator God, the Gift Giver, is always drawing us into communion, drawing us into a relationship with himself.
God creates all of us—temporal material creatures—to unite us with himself in a new creation. He creates us from nothing. He calls us into being. He gives us being by sharing the fullness of his existence with us. He holds us in existence moment by moment. He knows us thoroughly, completely, perfectly. He creates us for the purpose of being in a loving relationship with him. So when we see Mary snuggling her baby, it’s not just a scene. The manger in Bethlehem is profoundly about us. We are looking at the time when the all-wise Creator entered his creation to rescue, to gather, to love us.
The mystery and majesty and wisdom of God is wrapped in swaddling clothes—given to you. You know this, I’m sure. This baby is no ordinary baby. So won’t you close your eyes for just a moment, stop everything for just a minute, and receive him?
God is reaching out in love. That’s why a child is born, a Son is given. Christmas is about our Creator God and us and his gift of love and our gift of love in response.
