When we sing “O come let us adore him Christ the Lord,” we are looking back in time and forward to the future. In our hearts, we are on our knees gazing at the wonder of the baby Jesus laying in the manger. We are also casting our crowns with the elders encircling Christ, the exalted center of all creation. Come let us adore him.
The glorified Christ is at the center of his creation. The created order is gathered around his throne in heaven, in worship. Christ is in the center encircled by all created beings: “four living creatures covered with eyes in front and back (Revelation 4:6), twenty-four elders dressed in white with gold crowns seated on thrones (Revelation 4:4), and the seven spirits of God (Revelation 4:5). Christ is the focus. Christ is the Object of all creation’s worship. Christ is the One all adore. During Advent, we adore him: remembering his first coming while looking for his Second.
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of angels
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation
Oh, sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God
Glory in the highest
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!
Yes, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning
Oh, Jesus to Thee be, oh, glory given
Word of the Father
Now in flesh appearing
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord![1]
